Lent at West Linn Lutheran

Shrove Tuesday - February 13

Shrove Tuesday Supper : February 13th 5:30pm to 7:00pm

The Men of WLLC have graciously agreed to serve as our chefs! We will have pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs and all the other delicious sides that go with this festive day! It will be a great meal so please come and join us! No charge; free-will offering!

Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, refers to events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany(Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday (known as Shrove Tuesday). Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season. WLLC is celebrating as well! So join us for this delicious meal!

Ash Wednesday - February 14

We will have two services on Ash Wednesday this year:

  • Noon (no communion)
  • 7:00 PM (with communion)

Through earthy substances like ash, bread, and wine, Ash Wednesday worship invites us to examine our human nature.  Come at Noon or 7 pm to receive the ash cross and to join others as you begin your Lenten journey.

Tuesday Services

Tuesdays In Lent: Feb. 20, Feb. 27, Mar. 5, Mar. 12, Mar.19

Tuesdays in Lent will begin with a Soup Supper at 5:30 pm to be followed by Holden Evening Prayer in the Sanctuary.

Our Theme is “Deliver Us.” From Moses to Jesus, Lent to Passover, and beyond.  As the Psalmist proclaims, “God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in times of trouble.” God continues to save us, rescuing us from trouble that is out of our control and that which is of our own making. This Lent, let us acknowledge that the world could use some delivering… while keeping the hope and faith that it is coming.

Have a Beautiful, Terrible Lent!

Resources to Reflect and Pray Together
By Kate Bowler

Lent is full of hard truths. And it is a perfect moment for spiritual honesty. We can look on this tragicomedy with love and bemusement as we wait for the someday that will be God’s promised future. There, God’s kingdom comes. God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven. And in the meantime, there’s this . . . our beautiful, terrible days.
